About Us

Michael Robertson attained a Biological Sciences degree in 1984, majoring in ecology from Witwatersrand University. He worked initially as an entomologist in Nelspruit on avocados and citrus and soon joined a commercial citrus estate where he specialised as a research entomologist in biological pest management. Four years later he joined a small company in Johannesburg landscaping gardens.

In the year 2000 Michael started his own company Greenfree Pools as a water specialist in the pool and pond service industry, repairs and maintenance. Greenfree Pools now specialise in chemical free solutions in ponds and swimming pools.

Pool customers have asked me over the years how they can go about having a swimming pool without using any chemicals. As an ecologist this has always fascinated me. In 2005, I began researching this new and exciting field and discovered natures very own micro-organisms which facilitate the natural energy conversion pathway between food sources and without which our planet could not exist. Since then these micro-organisms have provided many solutions for recycling water in dams with water fowl as well as for pools, ponds, streams and wetlands.
