MATERIALS

Solid Surface Materials

  • Use a recycled content composite as an alternative to natural stone and synthetic hard/solid surface materials.

Building Materials

  • Use recycled glass where possible.
  • Concrete is a highly durable material which has both eco-friendly and non eco-friendly qualities.
  • Use clay plaster as an alternative to gypsum plaster. Clay plaster has lower levels of embodied energy and excellent eco properties.
  • Lime plaster is a natural more eco-friendly alternative to gypsum plaster for your interior walls.

FURNITURE

Salvaging, recycling and renovating materials and products are the best solutions for your interiors. Materials should be non toxic so that human health is not affected.

Lifespan

Interior structures, materials and products should be designed with their lifespan as priority so that you are able to renovate, refurnish, maintain, repair and make the most out of them. This encourages a sustainable lifestyle and turns away from all things disposable, low quality and with a short lifespan.

Flexibility

Interior structures, materials and products should be designed so that they are flexible to change when their demand ceases or alters in the future. Change could be renovation, recycling, remanufacturing, restoration and repair.

We specialise in natural, recycled, low-emission and biodegradable interior finish materials and furniture for all facets of the industry, those being residential, leisure or commercial.

Our interiors are designed with a contemporary appeal and our style is characterised by its clean lines. We make every effort to incorporate eco-friendly principles into our designs.

What is it?

'Eco' comes from the Greek word for house, oikos, and means Environment or habitat, as in ecology, "the branch of biology that deals with the relations between living organisms and their environment". That basically describes interior design in general. When something is referred to as 'eco', for example eco-friendly, it means that it has little negative impact on our environment.

Sustainable materials such as flooring from bamboo, cork and bark would be considered more eco-friendly than hardwood, because the source material is replenished every few years rather than decades. However, flooring from reclaimed hardwood is eco because no new trees are taken and it uses material which might otherwise be bound for a landfill or burning. Eco products are generally natural, which produces less pollution and non biodegradable refuse. Deck boards made from recycled plastic can be considered eco because, like reclaimed lumber, they require no tree harvesting and reduce landfill waste.

Other terms used for 'eco' are 'environmentally responsible', 'sustainable' and 'green'.
