Green Energy

Green Energy
The first law of thermo-dynamics states that the total amount of energy on our planet remains constant always. The second law states that as forms of energy are expended they become less easily available. That is known as entropy: the slow winding down of available energy. By burning coal, gas or oil you rapidly convert a ‘relatively’ easily available, concentrated source of energy, in the form of a fossil fuel, into a much less available form: dispersed exhaust gases. In effect you have taken a highly concentrated energy source, built up over millions of years by the Earth and sent up in smoke to derive just a small amount of usable power!
So the process of using fossil fuels is considered ‘high-entropic’ and essentially, extremely inefficient and not sustainable.
However, by utilizing renewable energy you tap into natural flows of energy, namely: sunlight, moving water, wind, biological- or geothermal processes. These are part of natural cycles. Their embodied energy is truly renewable as it remains available to the same degree and is not depleted any more than it otherwise would by using it. This is the primary difference with renewable energy systems: they offer a’ low entropic’ use of available energy.
To apply these alternative renewable energy sources to your living environment, you need to reassess your lifestyle and find ways you can reduce your energy demand. You need to adopt a philosophy of conservation before you can set out on your journey towards using renewable energy.
The primary benefit of using renewable energy resources is that they do not contribute to carbon-based warming and polluting agents being released into the Earth’s atmosphere. The cost of these systems are not always cheap, but when we consider the cost to the Earth of using fossil based fuels to generate our energy, renewable energy systems become very attractive. You are paying to ensure that the energy you use doesn’t cause any adverse environmental impacts.
Because there are no harmful emissions associated with the use of these systems, you can also factor in an indirect savings to the general health and vitality of the people who populate the environment. In short, buying your energy up front for life ensures that your demand for energy doesn’t affect any other living system.
The great advantages of renewable energy are:
- We can use it repeatedly and never deplete it!
- It doesn’t contribute to Global warming or produce polluting emissions.
- You own your energy supply. It is secure and not reliant on inefficient central grids.
- Your energy supply is ‘cleaner’, free of surge and peak currents that can damage your appliances.
- Alternative energy systems are assets to your buildings, increasing the value of your property.
- They can be installed in almost any situation, from high density urban locations, to remote rural settings where grid connections are not available.
